The Ministry grants material and financial aids to the low income families of central province to construct permanent houses.
Implemented programmes
- Granting of Asbestos sheets
- Rs 50000/- housing loan programme
- Implementing Awareness programmes about "Construction of low cost houses"
Qualification required for applying assistance of Rs 50000/- Housing Loan
- Applicant must be a permanent resident of relevant divisional secretariat
- Age between 18 and 55 years ( Maximum age limit is not applicable if you have two permanent public servants as guarantors)
- If the applicant is unmarried, he/she must be the legal guardian of the family (Must be certified by a Grama Niladhari certificate co-signed by the Divisional Secretary)
- Being a Samurdhi recipient or low income person (But he/she should have the capability to pay monthly installment and the loan interest )
- The corresponding land must be owned by the applicant or his/her family
- Must be certified by a Grama Niladari certificate co-signed by the divisional secretary that the applicant enjoyed the land for more than 05 years in the case of a government land and having no hindrance giving him the ownership in the future
- In case of a privately owned land, the current owner must submit a letter to the Grama Niladari expressing his/her willingness to transfer the ownership of the land to the applicant in the future.
Qualification required for applying assistance of asbestos sheets
- Must be a permanent resident of the relevant divisional secretary’s division
- Being a Samurdhi/Public charity assisted /low income recipient or a very poor person
- Being a family unit with married or widowed children
- Not having roofing material for the house under construction or not having a permanent roof for the current house
- Applicant must not be a recipient of a similar grant in the past.
